History sheeter shot dead

Rabi Behera alias Chicken Ravi, a history sheeter, was shot dead by criminals from a close range at Lanjipalli area here today in what was clearly yet another instance of the continuing violent rivalry among criminal gangs in the city.
The criminal Rabi Behera was conned into a pre-planned trap laid by a group close to him. According to police sources he was called to the house of Susant Bisoi where he was shot. Bisoi and his two sons along with some others were alleged to be involved in the murder.
It is said that Bisoi and ‘chicken’ were past associates in illicit liquor trade who had developed rivalry during recent past. Six rounds were fired at Rabi before the assailants fled the spot. Rabi Behera was a hardened criminal who was running a gang involved in illicit liquor trade and tender fixing. With more than 12 criminal cases of murder, attempted murder, extortion etc pending against him, he had been jailed twice in the past. Police patrolling has been intensified in the city to arrest the assailants and prevent escalation of the gang war.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Mr Shefeen Ahmed was confident of nabbing the culprits. They have been identified and we have launched a manhunt to arrest them, he said.
