OPCC committees to monitor govt

In a bid to sharpen its attack on the state government for its failure in various fronts, Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has announced formation of as many as five monitoring committees, which will closely scrutinise the government’s performance in the respective fields. “The committees will minutely watch the state government’s performance. They will tour extensively across the state to create mass awareness against its failures. They will also educate people on the pro-people schemes and projects of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre,” said OPCC president Brig. KP Singh Deo.
The committees will start working on 1 January and are directed to submit reports within one and half months. The reports will assist the party’s MPs and MLAs in attacking the state government in their respective Houses, added Mr Singh Deo.
The five committees, which will be headed by senior leaders like Leader of Opposition in Assembly Mr Bhupindar Singh, Mr Narendra Mishra, Mr Niranjan Patnaik, Mr Chakradhar Paik and Mr Harihar Karan, have been allotted one issue/field each.
While the committee led by Mr Singh will look into the alleged land scam and massive irregularities in government offices; the team led by Mr Mishra will monitor the mining scam and other large-scale corruption in the name of industrialisation. Similarly former minister Mr Patnaik will lead a team which will highlight the state government’s failure in spending Central assistance for various schemes and projects. The deputy leader in the Assembly Mr Paik will monitor the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, and student unrest in particular. Mr Karan, who heads the disciplinary action committee of OPCC, will keep a watch on the state government’s failure leading to farmers’ suicide and its poor performance in tackling price rise and other similar issues.
